How do you distinguish people actually mocking you and voices mocking you

Hello I’ve been having voices mock me for about a year now and recently it’s been worse than ever, I only just realised I’m having hallucinations about a month or 2 ago so I still can’t tell if someone is actually mocking me or I’m having hallucinations. It also doesn’t help that I get strong paranoia while these happen and I only think about it when I’m on my own. So how can I tell whether it’s real or not?

  1. You need to get treatment for your hallucinations and voices. Especially since they are getting worse.

You should assume that someone is not mocking you. Two possibilities, if you think they are mocking you, if you confront them they will deny it. If they aren’t, which is most likely, they will be very offended that you would think so and maybe angry too. This could permanently damage things wit this person. Little benefit to believing it and a lot of downside.

Getting treatment is key. Not only can treatment start to erase the problems you have, but it can prevent others from realizing you have problems. If things go untreated and keep getting worse, at some point others could realize you have a problem. By getting treatment, you can get better and help to keep it a secret to others you are facing challenges.

If you do get treatment, the first medications you try might not work, so don’t be discouraged and try something else. The first medications I took for bipolar didn’t work either. Hang in there and I prayed that you will get better.

  2. If you feel paranoia the voices are fake. The paranoia is usually attached to the fakes so if your are paranoid you can calm down because that means the voices are fake
