Abdominal / Diaphragmatic Breathing is an exercise which enhances the diaphragm’s action and reduces the ribcage’s action. When performed correctly, it is the most efficient and natural way of breathing. During inhalation, the diaphragm moves downward, pushing the abdomen downward and outward. During exhalation, the diaphragm moves upward and the abdomen moves inwards. Steps: Lie down in Savasana or sitting pose: 1. Place one hand on the chest and the other on the belly. The hand on your belly should rise more than the hand on your chest in the exercise. Focus on how your belly moves. 2. As you inhale, the hand on your belly will rise as the abdomen expands 3. As you exhale the hand on your belly will fall and you should feel it moving inwards towards the naval It’s helpful to imagine your abdomen expanding like a Balloon being filled with air. Benefits of Abdominal Breathing: 🌱Relaxes the nervous system reducing anxiety, stress and anger 🌱 Improves lymphatic drainage from the lungs 🌱 Massages the abdominal organs 🌱 Improves cardiac functions 🌱 Helps oxygenation of the blood and circulation 🌱 Stimulates the vagus nerve #breathwork #pranayama #yoga #yogicbreathing #meditation #yogapractice #yogainspiration #somatichealing #nervoussystemregulation #vagusnerve #wellness #stressrelief #anxietyrelief #meditate #breathe #wellnesstips
