The asana practice (physical postures) are just a small part of what yoga is. Pranayama for example and meditation are very powerful practices that don’t require physical activity. But the physical practice of yoga is very important as well because it opens up the energy channels and releases the tension and strain accumulated in the body. Flexibility is our natural state and if the body is stiff that means we are holding onto a lot of unnecessary tension. You just need to find a class that is appropriate for you and with practice you’ll see that not only you release physical tension but also mental stress and have more clarity of mind.
