Can I say I have OCD without a diagnosis?

What the title says. I am in therapy for OCD. I recieve treatment for OCD. My therapist can't diagnose me but she indicates it is likely and has been life long and that is why I am being treated for it. I just do not have the official diagnosis.

I try and explain my situation to others and they don't get it, just seem to think I like things neat. A couple times I have said I have OCD and i feel like a fraud and like I am discrediting real OCD. But..I am being treated for it.

I don't want to be one of those people who says "I'm so OCD" because hey like their pends to be lined up, any help or advice would be appreciated!

  1. For anything official/government related like insurance, income support, etc, no. They’ll want the official diagnosis.

For anything else, sure why not.

  2. Sure. Say whatever you have to. They will inevitably say “oh, I’m a little OCD too” which will annoy you, but don’t let it. People who have never had a compulsion aren’t likely to understand what it’s like.

Sometimes better just to not mention at all. None of their business really, but yes. Say you have it.
