I live in the USA where the healthcare system is incredibly greedy everywhere, including in the mental health field. They want $$$$. If you don't have $$$$$ you can't survive comfortably or possibly can't even survive if you have a severe enough aliment. Please do not comment anything along the lines of "your insurance plan won't affect the length of your stay" because that is a lie. American psych wards are notorious for keeping people with good insurance for a longer amount of days even if their stable and safe enough to leave earlier because their insurance is still willing to pay. I even had this happen to me once back when I had insurance, a psych ward kept me for a whole week, tried to keep me for 2 weeks, because my insurance was willing to pay, even though I was stable and safe enough to leave after 3 days.
However, I no longer have any health insurance, so I'm curious, does anyone know or have heard any stories about the vice versa? I'm not planning on going back to the psych ward, but if I ever ended up in one again, I'm curious if they would try to keep me for a shorter time since I have no health insurance and I'm poor.
