My daughter (25) was diagnosed with severe depressive disorder, ptsd and anxiety. She isn’t getting better and won’t try antidepressants.

She did try one antidepressant, after I had put in a ton of work to convince her it was rhe right move. The psychiatrist thought it would be a grand idea to prescribe her Zoloft. Zoloft has horrible side effects. She is in law school and the meds made her have uncontrollable yawning fits, exhaustion and overall inability to function normally. She didn’t go to school for a week after being on the meds for only 4 days.

Now she is adamant she will not try anything else but she badly needs it. She is cutting. She is acting out. I am very concerned. I do not think she will actually harm herself or I would have had her committed already and I think that pulling her from school is likely to make matters much worse.

She is terrified if she tries something else, similar results will happen. We have several family members however on Lexapro so I had suggested that since no one had any bad side effects with it. I just don’t know how she can get better without something at this point. She is trying to do it on her own but it hasn’t been successful thus far.

Any input would be appreciated.
