I am not surprised, but I do think this is a discussion that should be had more often because the things we as a society have been trying to lower them have not been working and need to change. With all the internet resources provided and people “knowing” what they should be doing (seeing a therapist, starting medicine, reaching out, making friends), suicide rates continue to climb. I personally think this is because of the way our society is structured right now. It directly goes against how we as humans are meant to operate biologically, mentally. We are treated as literal gears and tools in a large machine when we are not meant to be treated as such – we are probably far better off in smaller tribal/village type systems where we know our own importance and see the impact we make in our communities.
